He spent his early years in Los Angeles before recently relocating to Oregon with his owner, Ann Lewis. Together, they won the top prize: a $5,000 check. According to Wild Thang’s biography, he contracted distemper as a puppy while in a rescue foster, which resulted in his tongue sticking out. Despite his physical challenges, Wild Thang's owner described him as happy and healthy.

The World’s Ugliest Dog contest has been a highlight at the fair for almost 50 years. It promotes adopting dogs, especially senior dogs, from shelters instead of breeders.
